EMPAC endorses Davis in runoff
(Snow Hill, North Carolina)–The Employees Political Action Committee, a subsidiary of the State Employees Association of North Carolina, has endorsed Don Davis for the North Carolina Senate District 5 in the June 24th Runoff Election.
Davis had the highest number of votes in the May 6th Primary Election with 10,303. However, he had 36% of the votes falling short of the 40% needed to secure his nomination. Under North Carolina law, the second place contender, Kathy Taft of Greenville, had the option of calling for a runoff election.
During the week following the May 6th Primary Election, Taft called for a runoff election. The Runoff Election Day is set for June 24th. Early voting began June 5 and designated polling locations will remain open through June 21st.
Residents may vote early at the Pitt County Agriculture Center, Wayne County Board of Elections Office, and Greene County Board of Elections Office. All polling places will be open on June 24th from 6:30 am - 7:30 pm for voting.
The Employees Political Action Committee endorsed Chuck Stone, president of North Carolinians for Affordable Health Care and a Wayne County resident, in the May 6th Primary Election.
The Employees Political Action Committee is divided into 15 areas across North Carolina, so each district can participate in the process. Candidates were invited for endorsement interviews by EMPAC area members. Based on the candidates’ support for state employee and retiree concerns, interview panelists then made recommendations to their EMPAC area. To finalize the endorsement, the state EMPAC screened the results for compliance with the EMPAC bylaws and operations.
