Davis votes early in Runoff Election

(Snow Hill, North Carolina)–Snow Hill Mayor Don Davis rushed to the Greene County Board of Elections early this morning to be one of the first to cast his vote in the NC Senate District 5 Second Primary Election also referred to as the Runoff Election.

“I was glad to vote today. We have been working hard to inform residents about the Runoff Election. Voting is a precious right that we should exercise in all elections. I highly encourage residents to come back to the polls and vote in this important election,” said Davis.

In a crowded field of six Democratic candidates, Davis emerged as the highest vote getter recording victories in Wayne and Greene Counties and running second place in Pitt County. Although he had the highest votes with over 10,300, Davis garnered 36% of the votes, which was 4% points short of eliminating the possibility of a runoff election.

In the week following the May 6th Primary Election, the second place challenger, Ms. Kathy Taft of Greenville called for a runoff election.

“I respect Kathy’s call for a runoff election. Our supporters have remained committed to our campaign and continue to work hard with our winning effort. We will continue reaching out inviting others to help us,” Davis stated.

The Runoff Election date has been set for June 24, 2008. Early voting began today and will remain open through June 21, 2008. Residents may vote early at the Pitt County Agriculture Center, Wayne County Board of Elections Office, and Greene County Board of Elections Office.

All polling places will be open on June 24, 2008. Residents may forward request for absentee ballots via mail to their county’s board of elections office.
