Energy sparks in Wayne County at Davis campaign kickoff
(Goldsboro, North Carolina)–In a filled room, the audience applauded once Don Davis was introduced as the next senator for North Carolina District 5.
“I learned important values from my grandfather, the late Reverend Amos Artis, Sr. What I remember most about him is his integrity and commitment to the Wayne County community. I believe that these characteristics are important for our next senator,” said Davis.
There were over 100 supporters who rallied in the Royal Tea Room Restaurant from across Wayne County and from other counties in the District.
“We must improve education. If we are going to call it the North Carolina Education Lottery, then we must make sure that the money makes it into education. We must ensure that our teachers receive competitive pay. We must also include state employees here too. Students should be challenged to engage in service to their community,” Davis said to an applause.
Other issues that Davis addressed included stimulating our economy and making healthcare accessible and affordable.
“Education is linked to our economy. We must work to not only recruit large industries, but also support small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs. We must help residents turn their ideas into reality. Most big businesses started with ideas that were supported by proper resources. None of this matters, education or a strong economy without good health,” Davis added.
After a standing ovation, Davis answered questions from the audience.Davis is one of six Democratic candidates seeking to fill the North Carolina Senate District 5 seat that Senator John Kerr is vacating. Kerr announced late in 2007 that he would not seek reelection.
In October 2007, Davis announced his intent to run for the North Carolina Senate. Residents will be able to vote in the May 6, 2008 primary election. The winner of the Democratic nomination will face off against Republican Louis Pate of Wayne County in the general election.
